A brand new wedding cake class that is set to teach you all the skills you need to make a show-stopping contemporary wedding cake! Learn all the techniques that go into making modern wedding cakes at our gorgeous cake school.

Description
This is the most often demanded cake class by our students – an intensive modern wedding cake course. During this cake decorating class, you will work on one three-tiered wedding cake and one show-stopping extended tier wedding cake. You will work with both real cakes and dummies to create your masterpieces. Throughout the class, you will be supported in practising key techniques and your teacher will be able to pinpoint exactly which skills you need to work more on. This is by far the best way of learning and avoiding developing bad habits in cake decorating which waste your time, effort and materials.
Class runs from 10am – 5pm.
This class is suitable for intermediate level students.
You will learn:
- How to work with dummy cakes (learn why this is an essential skill) – cover dummies with fondant and practice those sharp edges
- How to cover a hexagon cake with ganache and cover it with fondant (working on real cakes)
- How to carve, fill and cover an extended tier round cake with chocolate ganache and fondant, perfect for modern weddings
- How to achieve straight and smooth edges with fondant – this is the latest trend that is an essential skill for all cake decorators
- How to effectively add gold lustre on fondant and use royal icing stencils onto your cake
- How to make a wreath of sugar flowers to include roses, foliage and berries – we have selected these flowers that will help you to recreate not just these, but any flowers that you choose.
- How to use simple cut out flowers and simple decorating techniques to make a cake stand out.
- Add the extra oomph to your cake with some stunning royal icing stencil to your cake
- How to stack, dowel and secure your wedding cakes for easy transport and delivery
- How to cover a board with fondant – all-important for the neat finish and professional touch
- How to fix any common cake mistakes (after all, you might not have the time to bake and decorate an entirely new cake on a Friday night!)
You will go home with:
- One three-tiered cake and one extended tier cake
- New skills and confidence in working with royal icing when used with stencils
- New sugar flower making skills
- Skills (and lots of practice) in covering cakes with sharp fondant edges
- Confidence to recreate any of your designs at home
- Answers to any cake questions that you can throw at us!
All ingredients and equipment for the day are provided. Please note that you will be encouraged to work at your own speed. Some experience of working with cakes is desirable. The teacher will ensure that you work at a pace suitable for you.

Uma is a wonderfully lovely lady, brought not just her expertise but also patience and thoroughness to the session. Her approach to teaching is both inspiring and encouraging, making complex techniques seem achievable for decorators at any level. What stood out to me was the depth of knowledge shared throughout the course. The hands-on session was incredibly valuable, offering us ample opportunity to refine our skills under her attentive guidance. The course was structured in a way that built our confidence step by step. Starting from the basics, we gradually moved to more intricate designs, learning not just how to create beautiful flowers but also how to arrange them artistically on cakes. By the end of the course, I was amazed at how much I had learned. I left feeling equipped with the skills and confidence to create stunning buttercream flowers on my own. Tracy Deno20/10/2023I just finished up the 5 module online class and really enjoyed it! I am just getting into cake decorating, but found the course to be very helpful and easy to understand. Beyond the beautiful cakes and frostings, there are so many little tips and tricks to help with consistent results, which is what we're all trying to achieve. I am in the US, so there are differences in some of our ingredients, but I just googled substitutions. I hope to attend a class in person, because Uma and her team were a delight to learn from.

She took the time to demonstrate and explain everything clearly and in detail, and I have learnt so many new techniques and tips to elevate my bakes! I would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore vegan and free from cakes!
nana adwoa baafi12/10/2023I took the cake baking and decorating class and would say it’s an excellent class, but only if you have some baking experience. Uma is extremely organized and obviously knows her craft. Join the course if you’re a bit rusty and need a refresher or want to improve your cake decorating skills. Just note that it’s NOT a beginner’s class. As someone who has never baked before, my inexperience was quite pronounced in class and the pace leaned towards those who were more experienced. There was very little room for mistakes, hence a lot of pressure to get things right, even at the first try. In future I suggest the trainer hires an assistant who can take off some pressure and give some support to those who are inexperienced. Nonetheless, I’ll recommend - only if you have experience and are looking for a brush up.

Would recommend to absolutely anyone regardless of skill level. I feel much more equipped to make my sister’s wedding cake next summer and have so many new skills to show off :)

She is very organised and patient and makes sure you have understood the techniques involved to master the skill.
